Pagan Daily Devotionals

If you are not already familiar with this from my earlier website, the Pagan Daily Devotionals are a thought for the day. It's not supposed to be instructional necessarily, but something just for fun. Some days are jokes, puzzles, quotes, various spiritual thoughts and things you might be interested to know. Sometimes it's just an idea, and sometimes I suggest a way to use that idea during your day. It's really a mix of lots of Pagan stuff.

Loki

Loki is a familiar name in mythology, and most know him as a trickster God. He had more qualities that just that though. He was associated with all forms of mischief, stealth, thievery, revenge, lies and dark magick, and natural disasters like earthquakes, and fires. Loki was a shape-changing Giant, married to Angerboda. They had three children. Two were considered monsters (Jormungand, the sea-serpent, and the Fenris wolf), and the third was Hel, the Goddess of the Dead.

The Enchanted Diary

Enchanted Diary by Jamie Wood
An introductory workbook on magick, spirituality and other related topics, written specifically for teen girls.

  • Written by Jamie Wood
  • Published by Celestial Arts
  • Softcover, 185 pages
  • ISBN: 1-58761-245-3

This is an exercise book, with lined blank spaces meant to be written in and worked with. The subtitle (A Teen's Guide to Magick and Life) is a little misleading, as the book is much more about personal empowerment and feminine spirituality than actual magick. I'd say most of the information is geared towards exploring your inner self and determining who you are.

Making Tinctures

Making herbal tincturesTinctures are suitable for extracting plant and herb essences that do not infuse well through water and heat. Roots and woody parts are commonly used in tincture format. Tinctures are highly concentrated , so be sure that you are administering proper dosages when using them for medicinal reasons.

Storing Your Magickal Supplies

If you're anything like me, over time you have accumulated a mixed collection of herbs, oils and incenses. What do you do with it all? Stuff everything into a shoebox, still in their original packages? Or display it on an altar? Whatever your storage method, you might want to think about what is best for the items, rather than what is best for you. Herbs can go stale, oils can go rancid and incense can go bland, if left in the wrong conditions for any length of time.

Baba Yaga

I was first introduced (unknowingly) to the dark figure of Baba Yaga many years before I discovered Paganism. As a role playing game enthusiast, I was intrigued with a gaming module published in Dragon magazine, based on Baba Yaga and her magickal hut. I found the character of Baba Yaga to be so interesting. I had no idea that she was a real figure in Russian mythology.

Choosing a Tarot Deck

Choosing a Tarot deck can be a bit intimidating for a beginner, once you realize the hundreds (thousands?) of decks available on the market today. Artwork can range from reproduction medieval, to whimsical fantasy, to cutting-edge modern. You name the style, there is probably a Tarot deck to match. So where do you begin?

Books for Pagan Parents

Raising children along a Pagan path can be difficult, especially in today's world. These books can give some guiding advice to Pagan parents who don't have any role models to turn to.

Pagan Symbols

pagan symbolsPentacle
The five-pointed star within a circle is the most common Pagan symbol, and it is typically used to identify oneself as a Pagan or Wiccan. The five points represent the 4 elements plus the spirit, and the circle connects them all. A five-pointed star without the circle is sometimes called a pentagram, rather than a pentacle. Based on numerology, the five points means the pentacle symbolizes the Earth element and can be used as an Earth symbol on an altar.
